Geological Museum was established on May 16, 1928. The museum has been renovated with a grant from JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency). After undergoing renovations, the Geological Museum reopened and was inaugurated by the Vice President of Indonesia, Megawati Sukarnoputri on August 23, 2000.

As one of the historical monuments, museums are under the protection of the government and a national heritage. In this museum, stored and managed geological materials are abundant, such as fossils, rocks, minerals. All of which were collected during fieldwork in Indonesia since 1850.

Presenting Information about:

• 1st Floor
• Hypothesis of the earth in the solar system
• Regional tectonic fabric that forms the geology of Indonesia; manifested in the form of mock model the movement of the earth plates active
• Geological conditions Sumatera, Java, Sulawesi, Maluku and Nusa Tenggara also Irian Jaya
• Fossils history of human evolution according to Darwin is also located here

• Present information about the benefits and uses of minerals or rock for humans, as well as drawing panel mineral resource distribution in Indonesia.
• Showing footage of exploration and exploitation of mineral resources
• Contains information about the use of minerals in everyday life, both traditional and modern.
• Shows how the processing and management of minerals and energy commodities
• Presenting information about the various types of geological hazards (negative aspects) such as landslide, volcanic eruptions and so on.
• Presenting information about the positive aspects of geology, especially related to the symptoms volcano.
• Explains about water resources and their utilization, environmental influences also to the preservation of these resources.

Change function at museum, based with the technological advances, making geological museum as:

• Place outside of school education relating to the earth and its preservation efforts.

• Where people perform an initial assessment prior to fieldwork. Where the Geological Museum as a center for earth science information that describes the state of Indonesia's natural geology in the form of a collection of props.

• Geowisata interesting objects.
